Vaulting

 Team History

In 1996, Maria Blackstone founded Rhode Island’s first and only equestrian vaulting team, the In Harmony Vaulters. Three years later, her daughter, Arielle joined the team at age the age of seven and developed a lifelong admiration for the exciting sport of vaulting.

After relocating to east Tennessee in 2004, Maria and Arielle created the Transition Vaulters in 2008. As the team grew and progressed, the need for a canter vaulting horse lead Arielle to purchasing a stunning, black, 17.3 hand Percheron mare from California named Mavourneen. Mavi, as she is lovingly called around the barn, was an experienced vaulting horse and already had an AVA Nationals under her belt.

The perfect addition to the team, Mavi carried the Transition Vaulters to their first AVA Regional Championships that year and subsequent years, with many competitions in between. Competing at state, regional, national, and international levels, the team continues to grow, now blessed with four talented vaulting horses and ten competitive vaulters. Coached by Arielle and Maria, the Transition Vaulters love doing demonstrations, exhibitions and educating people about the artistry of equestrian vaulting

Please feel free to visit the farm and watch the team practice. They love and audience! Contact us if you are interested in joining the team or just curious about vaulting. We also welcome groups such as 4H or Pony Club and provide an introduction to the amazing and growing equestrian sport.

What is Vaulting

Vaulting is an exciting and creative equestrian sport which combines music, the
love of horses, gymnastics and dance. Introduced in the United States from
Europe in 1956, vaulting is a growing, team sport which
develops coordination, balance, strength and creativity while promoting teamwork
and encouraging harmony with the multidimensional movement of the horse.

Vaulting is a year round sport for ages pre-school to adult and teaches sportsmanship, teamwork and responsibility while developing trust in their horse and teammates and developing a strong sense of self confidence.

Vaulting Horse

Vaulting Horses are specially chosen for their disposition and rhythmic, consistent gait and are specifically trained to work on a lunge line and take direction form the longeur. Depending on the level of the vaulter, vaulting horses perform at walk, trot, and canter while vaulters execute gymnastic and dance moves on the horse while the horse moves in a circle.

Vaulting Barrel

The vaulting barrel is a very important part of vaulting practice.
